Creating a Holistic Culture of Life:
Bridging the Life/Peace Divide
August 4-6, 2017
Eastern University, near Philadelphia, PA
More complete and current information on the Conference is now available at our Conference Web site.
Our 30th anniversary conference is promising to be a unique, hands-on conference experience. Our goal is for participants to come away with a better understanding of the connectedness of the life issues and specific ideas and tools to start advocating for the Consistent Life Ethic in their various communities (faith, geographic, organizational, etc.). And of course there will be plenty of time of networking and socializing.
Speakers include Shane Claiborne, cofounder of the Simple Way in Philadelphia, and a fierce advocate against the death penalty; John Carr, Director, Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life, Georgetown University; Darren Calhoun Chicago community activist and Worship Leader, Urban Village Church-South Loop; Joyce McCauley-Benner, Feminists for Life of America; Kristen Day, Executive Director, Democrats for Life of America; Cassandra Hill, Pastor, Covenant Freedom Church; Kelsey Hazzard, Founder Secular Pro-Life; and Fr. David Link, a chaplain at the Indiana State Prison.
See our Speakers page for more information on speakers.
Workshop topics include: sex trafficking, restorative justice, messaging (especially on college campuses), different faith traditions, pacifism and the just war theory, and using stories. Skills workshops include fundraising and a "Conversation Café/World Café” training. We can still consider workshop ideas, so send any ideas to Lisa Stiller. August 6 is Hiroshima Day, so we expect to take part in a commemorative event.
Housing on the campus of Eastern, which includes 6 meals (Friday evening through Sunday noon) is $160-200. Options with less meals or for those not staying at the site are also available. Conference registration is $50 to $150, sliding scale, and booths/tables are available for organizations or individuals for $75. There are also sponsorship opportunities, ranging from $200 to $750. Information on all of these is on the registration page.
