Consistent Life Network Internships

INTERNSHIP: FINDING NONVIOLENT ALTERNATIVES TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD

The Consistent Life Network is looking for interns to contribute to our work defending life against the threats of abortion, the death penalty, euthanasia, poverty, racism, and war. We specifically want interns for our Grassroots Defunding: Finding Alternatives to Planned Parenthood Initiative, which seeks to de-fund Planned Parenthood at the local level by promoting alternative providers who offer the same actual healthcare services PP does but do not do abortions.

We are currently offering four internships, involving entirely different skill sets, with the Grassroots Defunding initiative:

Internship: Researching details on how insurance companies refer to Planned Parenthood

A previous intern has researched Aetna and found placed on the web where they refer to specific local PP centers. This will serve as a model for how to do the same research for our list of other insurance companies. Since we have information on problems at specific centers (health violation documents, malpractice suits, etc.), we can use this information for outreach to these insurance companies to ask whether they actually want to keep Planned Parenthood on their list of referrals, or at least if they wish to remove specific local centers.

We need someone who is committed to defending human life from violence, organized and detail-oriented, and skilled at web research.

Internship:  A Study Comparing Reviews for Planned Parenthood to its nearby Community Health Center.

Much as we’re discovering an avalanche of patient and employee reviews of Planned Parenthood that indicate extensive problems, these won’t mean much if the same problems are common in other facilities that serve low-income people.  We have already matched the closest Community Health Center (CHCs) to each of the fewer than 600 Planned Parenthood locations in the U.S., so gathering data to allow comparison of the Google and Yelp star ratings should be a straightforward task. We need data input into the spreadsheet, ready for analysis. If the first part of the study shows the CHCs rate better than PP, then we’ll add in more specifics. Supervisor Rachel MacNair, Ph.D. makes her living by working with dissertation students and their statistics, so can offer professional supervision, run the stats, and confer with the student to make this strong research experience.

We need someone who is committed to defending human life from violence, organized and detail-oriented, and skilled at data entry and social science research.

Internship: Coordinating with pro-life organizations

The intern would contact an array of pro-life organizations to inform them about the Grassroots Defunding initiative and get them involved in supporting the initiative.

We need someone who is committed to defending human life from violence, organized and detail-oriented, and skilled at cold calling and networking. Past experience with pro-life activism, as well as outreach, networking, and cold calling work is preferred.

Internship: Lobbying members of Congress

The intern would lobby members of Congress who represent districts where no Community Health Centers exist to serve as alternatives to Planned Parenthood. The goal is to create such centers in these areas to provide non-abortion services. This lobbying effort will also involve working with other organizations, particularly pro-life ones.

We need someone who is committed to defending human life from violence, organized and detail-oriented, and skilled at political lobbying. Past experience with pro-life activism and lobbying, as well as outreach, networking, and cold calling work, is preferred.

Typical internship length is 3-6 months. Paid positions may be available. College students are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants should contact Rachel MacNair at grassrootsdefunding@consistent-life.org or call her at 816-753-2057.
