Good News 1: AMA Still Opposes Euthanasia

June 9: The American Medical Association has once again reaffirmed its opposition to physician-assisted suicide. It also continues to oppose misleading euphemisms such as "medical aid in dying." The House of Delegates affirmed its position of 2023, found in the HOD Handbook. To quote:
Of note, the AMA’s position on physician assisted suicide is not a position of neutrality and establishes that the profession of medicine should not support the legalization or practice of physician assisted suicide or see it as part of a physician’s role.
Good News 2: Progress on FACE Act Repeal

June 10: The FACE Act (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) was passed under the Clinton administration to give
draconian punishments for peaceful civil disobedience. Where a trespass charge may be justified, protesters could (and did) face years in federal prison (pictured: consistent-lifer Herb Geraghty spent 17 months in prison and was slated to spend more). Now the U.S. House Judiciary Committee has voted for repeal, and with 38 co-sponsors there seems to be a good chance that will happen.
Good News 3: Make Birth Free

June 14: Newsweek published an opinion piece by Kristen Day (pictured) of our member group Democrats for Life of America: Congress Should Pass Bipartisan Bill To Make Birth Free. The bill is The Supporting Healthy Moms and Babies Act. It would make substantial progress toward the final goal of making all birth free by addressing families with private insurance – listing pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum care as essential health benefits. It would eliminate deductibles and co-pays. It’s being sponsored by both Democrats and Republicans, since the pro-woman services and pro-life implications are obvious.

Juneteenth is a celebration of the final end of legally-approved slavery in the U.S. – the day when the word that they were free finally reached Texas – so Jim Hewes thinks it’s a good time to cover Abortion and Slavery. The nearby date of June 22 is the anniversary of the Dobbs decision.
Quote of the Week
Biblical book of Job 31:13-15
If I have denied justice to any of my servants, whether male or female, when they had a grievance against me, what will I do when God confronts me? What will I answer when called to account? Did not the one who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us both within our mothers?
