770 - Peace & Life: Shameful Ohio Ad - October 30, 2026

Mudslinging Goes Cruel

The “battle” metaphor used for elections is unhelpful, and many ads can be quite mean. However, the ad in the Ohio governor’s race that Vivek Ramaswamy ran using Amy Acton’s estranged mother was so stunning that there were plenty of fellow Republicans that condemned it. The state’s largest newspaper broke its no-endorsement policy to endorse Acton because of how disgusted they were with an ad where sexual abuse of a child is weaponized against her as an adult.

But the problem this controversy highlights, a mother who doesn’t prevent the sexual abuse of her own daughter by her husband or live-in boyfriend, is very real. Abortion plays a part, since it helps cover up the crime. Usually, it’s the abuser that takes the girl in to get the abortion, but a little digging comes up with these cases where it was her mother:

The Tovar case in Tucson Arizona: M.G. was abused by her stepfather. Her mother arranged for an abortion at Planned Parenthood, which never reported it (as legally required), and the mother remained with the stepfather. The abuse continued.

The Woods case in San Diego, CA: the fifteen-year-old C.C. was taken for a second-trimester abortion by her mother, who was aware C.C. was impregnated by her live-in boyfriend.

The Smith case in Norwich, CT: the father-figure live-in boyfriend Scott abused Smith, and when she became pregnant at the age of 12, her mother blamed her.

These come from research only on Planned Parenthood, not other abortion facilities. For a fuller list of court documents and newspaper stories, see the Problems at Planned Parenthood index, section on sexual abuse.

Quote of the Week

John Cavanaugh-O’Keefe

Pro-life Democrat: 50 Brief Insights, An Apologia, p. 21

If you had to make a choice – that is, you had to decide where to allocate money and time – would you rather win Illinois or the labor movement? Would you rather win California or the feminist movement? Texas or the peace movement? New England or immigrants? Sure, it does make sense to think about how to win state by state; but it also makes sense to think about how to move forward movement by movement.
